Hello. I have a wired Honeywell dial thermostat that I need to remove and replace with Hive. I have the CH and HW hive system. My old thermostat has 3 cables and an Earth (4 in total). I'm really confused what I need to do here. Any ideas?

Hi.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm in exactly the same position now.

Thermostat as yours, with the wiring for the programmer also attached.

Thanks,

Scott

Hive receiver replaces the programmer, should fit on the same backplate or you can change wire for wire.
The room stat needs to be either disconnected/linked out in the junction box (best way so you dont have live wires left) or the other way in your case the red and yellow joined together in the old stat.
If you link it in the old stat it is best to either leave the old stat and use it as a junction box or replace with a junction box. It is not a good idea to just push the wires back inside the wall!

If it's a Y Plan system, the cable will run from heating controller - room stat - 3 port valve, the micro switch inside the 3port valve is made and tells the boiler to fire.
So unless you want to/can run a cable from the controller directly to the 3 port valve, I'd suggest safely linking it out behind the old room stat.

Hi,
When linking out the wires behind the thermostat, are you linking the Live and the Call or the Neutral and the Call wires?
Thanks

I do believe that you can link one to three with a block and use electrical tape and terminal the neutral and earth. if the wiring is the same in the programmer then you should be able to just replace the Hive receiver on the current black plate.
