Hello

I'm v interested in hive, but because I'm tight I'm also tempted by saving the £80 by doing a self install. I'm finding it difficult to get the information from hive themselves.

I've got a Drayton lp822 controller which was only installed last year, and a single room thermostat. The Drayton controls bother heating and hot water. The system has some y valves under the hot water tank, and the bags engineer who fitted the Drayton had a pig of a time getting all the wiring working due to the previous controller being so old and none of the wiring being labelled. Does anyone know if I'm right in thinking the hive controller should be backplate compatible with this controller? I can I remove it and just plug the hive controller in? Then just a case of disconnecting the wall thermostat?

Hive themselves seem more interested in scaring potential customers into the proper install, but if it's as easy as I hope I'd rather not.

Hi
I would say if you can just replace the hive receiver on the same back plate just disconnect the room stat and you're good to go. If you like post some pictures of the back plate and room stat so we could just double check for you.

HI, apologies for the late reply. I took my controller/timer off earlier and took some photos. Would be grateful if someone could confirm if the hive controller would just fit into place so I can save myself a fair few quid!

Hi
I have just had a quick look at the images could you also take one of the wiring from the room stat as this will need to be removed before installing the hive system.

That's where I become unstuck I guess. I've no idea where the stat is wired into, and without taking the boiler apart I can't see anything obvious. Would it be connected to the boiler or would it be wired up near the motorised valves in the airing cupboard?

I do believe that you can link one to three on the room stat with a block and use electrical tape and terminal the neutral and earth. if the wiring is the same in the programmer then you should be able to just replace the Hive receiver on the current black plate. Please turn off the mains power first.
