Given that it is the Hive boiler controller that is switching the boiler on or off (heating only) it would be convenient to fit this where my old thermostat is. The old one only has a 2 wire and earth feed. This is a 240v circuit switch - no additional separate supply. My old thermostat is actually a programmable controller too and it is powered from the 2 wires that switch the heating on / off, I guess this is possible because it is a low power device.

Bearing in mind, the 240v on those wires effectively is sourced from a fused spare that feeds the boiler.

My question is, can I make do with just these two wires for the Hive boiler controller also - is it really necessary to have a separate supply?
